ART - about collecting

Hilary Butler (2014)

A recent conversation with a client about art gave me a moment to think about how I’ve collected pieces for over 27 years! Isn’t that crazy?! 27 years!

I instantly became obsessed collecting art, when in my early 20’s I visited a friend’s home and absolutely lost myself in her mother’s personal collection. One magnificent wall covered with art! Each piece unique and personal.

Since then, I began collecting pieces. Some treasures I discovered at the local thrift store or… Flea Market. Some I’ve collected from friends, family or boutique dealers. If there is one common thread woven between each piece is their unique and personal story. Each piece, significantly speaks to me.

Are you curating a wall? Well, here’s a short list of a few female artists that inspire me. Cheers to the power of creative expression!

Kandy released a limited number of pieces incorporating ashes and soot from from her home and studio lost in the Woolsey Fire (2018).

Embedded ash add a layer of complexity and storytelling.

Hilary Butler. Her bold and brilliant use of color, spontaneity and freedom inspire me.

I lose myself in her clarity of form, expressed in her most recent pieces.
